North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea on Saturday, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said, a day after the United States, South Korea and Japan wrapped up a five-day trilateral military exercise that Pyongyang has criticized as provocative. The missiles were fired from North Korea's eastern Wonsan area and traveled roughly 250 kilometers before landing in the country's eastern waters, South Korea's military said. According to the Yonhap news agency, the North appears to have launched its Hwasong-11 series ballistic missiles alongside rounds from 600-millimeter multiple rocket launchers, with the two systems fired in succession across multiple instances, sources told the outlet.
