The Bank of England ran up billions of avoidable losses on its quantitative easing (QE) era decisions. And it is compounding the cost today. During crises including the Covid-19 crisis and Brexit, the Bank bought up government bonds to support the economy via its QE programme. But it did so inefficiently, generating losses far larger than other central banks.
