Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) looks to open a new growth avenue for its blockbuster obesity drug Wegovy by targeting the pediatric market. In the late-stage STEP Young trial, semaglutide (the active ingredient in Wegovy) produced strong results in young children. In the trial, 40.4% of children treated with semaglutide were no longer classified as having obesity after 68 weeks, assuming adherence to treatment, compared with none receiving placebo. The result could expand the addressable market for Wegovy. But investors still need to see whether Novo can convert a successful clinical trial into a meaningful commercial opportunity.
