Singapore Stock Market May Extend Friday's Gains

(RTTNews) - The Singapore stock market on Friday ended the four-day losing streak in which it had retreated almost 110 points or 3.4 percent. The Straits Times Index now sits just beneath the 5,700-point plateau and it may add to its winnings on Monday. The global forecast for the Asian markets is positive on easing oil prices and likely bargain hunting. The European and U.S. markets were up and the Asian bourses are expected to open in similar fashion. The STI finished slightly higher on Friday as gains from the financial shared and retailers were capped by weakness among the energy and manufacturing companies. For the day, the index perked 6.18 points or 0.11 percent to finish at 5,695.93 after trading between 5,669.22 and 5,710.95.
