German federal prosecutors have charged a 57-year-old Berlin businesswoman with carrying out intelligence activities for Russia . Ilona W., who holds German and Ukrainian citizenship, is accused of working for the intelligence service of a foreign power, according to the Federal Prosecutor's Office. She was arrested on January 21 and remains in pre-trial detention. Prosecutors say Ilona W. ran a marketing agency in Berlin and also chaired a lobbying association, giving her extensive contacts in military and political circles. She allegedly had contact with a full-time Russian intelligence officer at the Russian Embassy in Berlin from at least October 2023.
