Texas is no longer treating every proposed data center as an automatic addition to the grid. On August 3, Governor Greg Abbott ordered an audit of projects moving through ERCOT's interconnection process, which contained more than 474 gigawatts of requests, over five times the state's record peak demand. ERCOT began issuing verification requests on September 9. Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) and Digital Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE:DLR) have already publicly committed to Abbott's standards.
