[Group of young children holding smartphones and hiding faces] European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU will push for social media restrictions for children under 13 years. The draft proposal is set to be introduced on Thursday. It will have strict age restrictions and verification requirements on social media, video-sharing platforms, app stores, online games, AI companions, and conversational AI chatbots, Bloomberg reported Monday. “No social media under the age of 13. No personal account under the age of 15,” von der Leyen said in her annual address on Wednesday. The proposed law will allow 13- and 14-year-olds to have accounts with limited features and parental supervision, she added.
