The initiative, known internally as Project Mercury, would grow Amazon’s same-day fulfillment footprint to more than 1,000 sites by 2031, up from about 85 currently, _Business Insider_ reported, citing internal planning documents. The expansion would give Amazon a larger network of facilities positioned closer to customers for faster deliveries.
