The EU annual inflation rate also stood at 3.2 per cent in August, rising from 3.0 per cent in July and 2.4 per cent a year earlier, the data showed. Among EU Member States, the lowest annual inflation rates were recorded in Sweden at 0.3 per cent, Estonia at 1.3 per cent and Czechia at 1.5 per cent. The highest rates were reported in Romania at 6.3 per cent, Lithuania at 5.6 per cent and Cyprus at 5.2 per cent. Eurostat said annual inflation fell in six Member States compared with July 2026, remained stable in one and increased in 20. In the euro area, services made the largest contribution to annual inflation in August, adding 1.43 percentage points. Energy contributed 1.29 percentage points, followed by non-energy industrial goods at 0.
