Missouri nonfarm payroll employment increased by 2,100 jobs in August 2026, and the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased by one-tenth of a percentage point. Private industry employment increased by 2,400 jobs and government employment decreased by 300 jobs. Over the year, there was an increase of 34,100 jobs from August 2025 to August 2026, and the unemployment rate decreased by half of a percentage point, from 4 percent in August 2025 to 3.5 percent in August 2026. Missouri's nonfarm payroll employment was 3,015,700 in August 2026, up by 2,100 from the revised July 2026 figure. The July 2026 total was revised downward by 1,300 jobs from the preliminary estimate.
