Michigan’s unemployment rate rises while national average stays steady - WNDU

MICHIGAN (WNDU) - Michigan’s unemployment rate rose to 5% in August. Michigan officials say the increase is being driven by a shrinking workforce and declining manufacturing jobs. The state lost close to 25,000 workers, while the number of unemployed people stayed about the same. Statewide payroll jobs fell as well. The national unemployment rate, however, stayed the same in August. Stay up to date on local news with WNDU on-air and online.
