Malaysia: Jailed ex-leader Najib allowed house arrest

Malaysia's graft-convicted former Prime Minister Najib Razak was granted royal clemency and will be allowed to sit out the remainder of a six-year jail term in house arrest, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim 's legal department said on Friday. King Sultan Ibrahim "has granted a conditional pardon" to Najib, "allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest" until August 23, 2028," lawyers said. The conditional pardon is subject to the payment of 50 million Malaysian ringgit ($12.3 million; €10.7 million).
