The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the state's unemployment rate was 4.7% in August. It was 4.9% in July and 4.3% in August 2025. The number of jobs in Illinois fell by about 4,400 from July. The number of unemployed people actively looking for work also fell by about 2.8% from July to about 306,800.
