Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Enters a New Era

Having turned 96 years old only a couple weeks ago, Warren Buffett, Chairman Emeritus of Berkshire Hathaway BRK.A BRK.B, has at last stepped down from his post. The world-famous value investor, having amassed a net worth of $149 billion (as of January 2026), first bought into Berkshire 64 years ago and took control of the company in 1965. Taking over his role at the financial conglomerate will be his 71-year-old son Howard, who is presently a director at the firm. CEO Greg Abel, who assumed his role last year from the retiring mogul, will remain in control of business dealings at Berkshire. The company's B-shares currently carry a Zacks Rank #3 but a low Value-Growth-Momentum grade of D.
