No, there are no signs,” Landsbergis said. According to him, key decisions in Russia are made personally by Putin, and this model of governance, in his view, has remained in place for a long time. Landsbergis believes that the Russian dictator sees a possible defeat in the war as a personal threat and therefore sees no alternative to further escalation. “For him, defeat in this war means a loss, perhaps even his own life. Therefore, the only path he sees, and the one being presented to him, is escalation,” the politician said.
