In a major milestone in memory innovation, Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) on September 15 announced the successful demonstration of a 512GB DDR5 RDIMM memory module for servers. This module is the first of its kind in the world, according to the company. The module can reach speeds of up to 9,200 MT/s. It can also enable as much as 12TB of DDR5 DRAM in a 24-slot dual-socket server. Micron said its 512GB DDR5 module consumes 16 watts. That's more than 60% less power consumption compared with 44.2 watts consumed by four 128GB modules to provide the same capacity. The new module can also deliver up to 1.4 times higher performance compared to 256GB DDR5 configurations in certain analytics workloads.Micron (MU) Unveils Breakthrough Memory Product.
