Global bond selloff debt, inflation and rising yields - The Financial Express

Global bond markets are undergoing a structural repricing as governments issue more debt amid persistent inflation, geopolitical conflict and weakening investor demand. Yields on major sovereign bonds are approaching multi-decade highs, increasing borrowing costs and raising questions about policy credibility. The 10-year US Treasury yield climbed to about 5 per cent in mid-September as the global bond sell-off continued, fuelled by concerns over inflation, the war involving Iran and rising debt. Meanwhile, the 30-year yield reached its highest level since 2008. To address persistent inflation, the US Federal Reserve raised its base interest rate by 0.25 percentage points to 4 per cent, marking its first increase since July 2023.
