The July surplus reflected a €36 billion (~$41.4 billion) goods surplus and a €12 billion (~$13.8 billion) services surplus, partly offset by deficits of €18 billion (~$20.7 billion) in secondary income and €2 billion (~$2.3 billion) in primary income, the ECB said in a press release. In the 12 months to July 2026, the current account surplus was €282 billion (~$324.1 billion), or 1.7 per cent of euro area GDP, compared with €298 billion (~$342.5 billion), or 1.9 per cent, one year earlier. The decline was mainly due to the goods surplus falling to €289 billion (~$332.2 billion) from €341 billion (~$392 billion), and a larger secondary income deficit of €205 billion (~$235.6 billion), up from €178 billion (~$204.6 billion).
