The Sony (SONY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SONY]) release earned $60 million from 3,684 theaters during the Sept. 18-20 weekend, giving it a strong per-location average of $16,287. It accounted for about 54% of the estimated $110.3 million generated by all films in North America. The movie also opened with $48.3 million in international markets, bringing its worldwide debut to $108.3 million. That marked the biggest global opening in the history of the “Resident Evil” franchise.
