Facebook, Instagram recover after brief outage hits users in U.S. and other markets

The U.S. outage began around 8:55 p.m. ET on September 20. Downdetector recorded more than 17,000 reports for Facebook and over 5,000 for Instagram at the peak. Reports fell sharply by about 10 p.m. ET, indicating the services had largely recovered.
