The ECB and euro area national central banks launched Pontes, a DLT settlement service that lets wholesale tokenised assets settle in central bank money using a dual settlement model (Eurosystem DLT cash tokens or T2) and a Hash-Link protocol for delivery‑versus‑payment, with full rollout planned by 2028. An initial cohort of 13 banks and four DLT operators are onboard after 2024 trials of 50+ tests with 64 participants, and the ECB will begin investing a small portion of its funds in euro‑denominated tokenised securities, signaling increased crypto adoption, improved security and institutional integration for DeFi, DEX/CEX settlement and tokenised finance.
