Lula warns against foreign interference, defends Brazil’s sovereignty at UN

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has warned against attempts to interfere in Brazil’s upcoming election , using his address to the United Nations General Assembly to deliver a broader defence of the country’s sovereignty amid tensions with the United States. Speaking in New York on Tuesday, Lula said Brazil would not allow either domestic or foreign actors to undermine the October 4 vote, which will see him seek a fourth non-consecutive term. “Brazilian democracy belongs to Brazilians,” Lula said towards the end of his speech. “Brazil will remain a sovereign country.
