(RTTNews) - The Japanese stock market is sharply higher on Wednesday, snapping the three-session losing streak, with the benchmark Nikkei index staying above the 28,700 level, following the broadly positive cues overnight from Wall Street, with gains across most sectors as traders digested Fed Chair Powell's comments, even as lingering concerns about the impact of the rapid spread of the coronavirus Omicron variant remain. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Index is up 495.31 points or 1.76 percent at 28,717.79, after touching a high of 28,722.33 earlier. Japanese stocks closed notably lower on Tuesday. Market heavyweight SoftBank Group is gaining more than 4 percent and Uniqlo operator Fast Retailing is adding more than 1 percent.
