The most competitive races for control of the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm election may be toss-ups on the political map. But in the most fiercely contested districts, one candidate often holds a massive financial edge. In 11 of the 19 incumbent-versus-challenger matchups rated as "toss ups" by The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter , a clear financial divide emerged: One campaign had at least twice as much money available as the other, according to Federal Election Commission data compiled by OpenSecrets , a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that tracks money in politics. In every one of those races, the incumbent held that commanding lead.
