Pope Leo XIV arrived for a four-day visit to France on Friday , the first official papal visit to the strictly secular country in 18 years. Leo, the spiritual leader of the some 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide, was greeted at Paris' Orly Airport by French President Emmanuel Macron and will be in the country until Monday. In remarks delivered at the Elysee Palace, Leo on Friday underscored opposition to assisted dying initiatives just two months after France created a legal right to die for those with incurable illnesses. Though he did not specifically mention France's new law, the pontiff criticized what he called "profit-driven ventures" such as surrogacy and assisted dying.
