World number one Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the China Open, saying that he is not yet ready to compete as he continues to recover from the knee injury that also forced him to miss the US Open. The 25-year-old Italian has not played since capturing his fifth major title at Wimbledon in July. Sinner skipped the Canadian Open and withdrew from the Cincinnati Open, two key hard-court tune-up events, before also pulling out of the US Open. “I’m very sorry to announce that I won’t be able to play in Beijing this year,” Sinner said on social media on Friday. “My knee is not where I would like it to be, and I’m not ready to compete yet, but I will do everything possible to be back on court as soon as I can.
