Short-form content sharing platform TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance reached a settlement with Alabama, the southeastern US state said on Friday, days ahead of what would have been a revealing trial over teen safety and its impact on their mental health. As part of the deal, TikTok agreed to pay $100 million (€87.7 million) to the state of Alabama and enact measures for teens including a two-hour daily use limit, restricted access for children and pauses after 15 minutes of use. However, the payout could rise to $300 million if 40 other states sign similar agreements with the company within a stipulated time period, the document said.
