Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has said the selection of three senior European Central Bank officials next year is likely to involve a broader political agreement among eurozone countries. “It will be some sort of a grand bargain,” Mitsotakis told Bloomberg Surveillance on Friday. Eurozone finance ministers are preparing to begin the process of filling the positions of ECB President Christine Lagarde, Chief Economist Philip Lane and Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel, all of whom are due to leave next year. Schnabel’s decision to depart in early January has accelerated the process, while Lagarde could leave before her non-renewable eight-year term expires in October 2027.
