The plan’s main initiatives include digitizing border monitoring, stepping up efforts to counter disinformation and introducing tougher measures against human trafficking networks. The plan proposes expanding the mandate of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) to monitor social media in order to improve its operational response. Member states are to immediately transmit data on any changes at the borders to EUROSUR. To counter the spread of fake news and disinformation that fuel migration flows, special initiatives for harmonized responses (GARRI) will be established.
