Dollar General Corporation DG received a meaningful boost from tariff refunds during the second quarter of fiscal 2026, supporting margin expansion and profitability. The company reported that gross profit as a percentage of sales increased 127 basis points year over year to 32.6%. The improvement stemmed from tariff refunds, lower LIFO provisions and reduced distribution costs. Dollar General estimated that tariff refunds, after related reinvestments, contributed approximately 81 basis points to gross margin expansion during the quarter. The benefit from tariff refunds also flowed through to operating profitability. Operating profit increased 29.2% year over year to $769.2 million, while operating margin expanded 126 basis points to 6.8%.
