German FM calls for Black Sea ceasefire to resume grain exports before grain spoils

He said this on Tuesday, September 29, while addressing the autumn session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg, according to Ukrinform’s correspondent. “I believe that it is our common responsibility to ensure that, at least as a first step, a ceasefire is achieved in the Black Sea, allowing these grain shipments to take place before the grain spoils,” the German foreign minister said. He pointed out that disruptions to grain shipments pose a particular threat to countries in the Global South. A possible famine could destabilize entire countries, trigger new refugee flows and cause widespread human suffering, he said.
