Record fuel prices could push German inflation above 3% - Yahoo Finance

Record fuel prices caused by the Iran war could drive German annual inflation above 3% in September, the highest level since late 2023, according to data due to be released on Wednesday. The Federal Statistical Office put annual inflation at 2.9% in August. Consumer prices in Germany last rose more sharply in December 2023, when the rate stood at 3.7%. Concerns about oil supplies resurfaced in September, amid ongoing conflict in Iran and the Houthi militia's advance in Yemen near the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The price of Brent crude temporarily rose well above $100 per barrel, while petrol and diesel prices reached record levels at German filling stations. The German government now plans to provide motorists with further relief.
