Delivering the 2026 Dow Lecture at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research on Tuesday, Taylor emphasized that the case for interest rate hikes is "not compelling" in the absence of tangible second-round effects. While acknowledging that geopolitical volatility has pushed oil and gas prices higher heading into winter, he noted that the domestic transmission mechanisms that amplified the 2022 inflation surge are conspicuously absent today.
