Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) highlighted low unemployment claims as a sign of labor market strength while urging Congress to pursue spending cuts and policies aimed at easing pressures on small businesses. On Tuesday, Scott said in a post on X that new unemployment claims remained at historically low levels. "GREAT NEWS: Unemployment claims continue to come in at around 57-year lows!" he said. He linked the labor market to economic opportunity, writing, "Jobs are the key to living the American Dream." Scott added, "Now, Congress needs to get out of small businesses’ way and cut spending so our economy can keep growing, and our job market can thrive!" US unemployment falls to 4.1%, but functional unemployment rises to 24.
