Portugal's inflation rate rose to a three-year high in September, driven largely by higher fuel prices, preliminary official data showed on Wednesday. Consumer prices rose 3.6% year-on-year in September, accelerating from 3.3% in August, according to Statistics Portugal. It was the highest inflation rate since September 2023. The acceleration was largely due to higher fuel prices, the agency said. Prices for energy products rose 12.2% year-on-year in September, compared with 15.4% in August, while unprocessed food inflation increased to 3.6% from 3.4%. Core inflation, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, edged up to 2.7% from 2.6%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.2% after remaining unchanged in August.
