A South Korean court has handed a suspended one-year prison sentence to K-pop singer Song Min-ho after he was convicted of violating the country's military service law. The 33-year-old member of the boy band Winner was found to have been absent multiple times at a community centre in Seoul, where he had worked as a social worker from 2023 to 2024. All able-bodied men in South Korea have to serve at least 18 months in the military. But some are alternatively assigned as social service personnel for health reasons. The prison sentence handed on Thursday is suspended for two years. That means he can avoid incarceration if he does not commit any crime during that two-year probationary period.
