The verdict was announced at a court hearing on Thursday, October 1, according to an Ukrinform correspondent. Zinchenko was charged with the intentional murder of a person in connection with the performance of her public duty, motivated by national intolerance, as well as illegal possession of a firearm. The judge stressed that the defendant had repeatedly been offered the opportunity to speak during the closing arguments, but had refused because he had not agreed on his position with his defense attorneys. On July 19, 2024, an unknown man shot linguist and public figure Iryna Farion in Lviv and fled the scene. She died in hospital shortly afterward.
