US stocks opened higher on Thursday, October 1, kicking off October on a positive note as gains in technology and AI-related shares offset pressure from a sharp rise in Treasury yields. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2%, while the S&P 500 gained 0.2%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.3% in early trading. Technology stocks drew support from strong results from Micron Technology, whose quarterly revenue quadrupled. The results lifted sentiment across chipmakers and other AI-related companies, even as Micron shares have already gained about 270% this year. Micron Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Mehrotra said the company plans to increase worker pay following its record performance, a move that could put some pressure on margins.
