In Cyprus, the unemployment rate rose to 4.1% in August 2026, marking the third consecutive month of increases. According to Eurostat data reported by Cyprus Mail , unemployment stood at 4.0% in July, 3.9% in June, and 3.8% in May. At the same time, Cyprus's rate remained below the average level in the European Union, which stood at 6.1% in August, and in the euro area, where it was 6.4%. Eurostat estimated the number of unemployed people on the island at approximately 22,000. This was the same as in August 2025, but higher than about 20,000 in May 2026.
