GE Vernova Inc. GEV is taking another important step in expanding its nuclear power business after the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ("NRC") issued the first U.S. construction permit for its BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) design. The permit covers the Tennessee Valley Authority's planned 300-megawatt BWRX-300 reactor at the Clinch River site in Tennessee, marking a regulatory milestone for GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy. The approval is important because regulatory licensing is one of the biggest hurdles facing new nuclear technologies. It provides a regulatory foundation for the BWRX-300 in the United States and could make it easier to pursue additional projects using the same standardized design.
