GE Vernova's BWRX-300 Secures First US Construction Permit

GE Vernova Inc. GEV is taking another important step in expanding its nuclear power business after the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ("NRC") issued the first U.S. construction permit for its BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) design. The permit covers the Tennessee Valley Authority's planned 300-megawatt BWRX-300 reactor at the Clinch River site in Tennessee, marking a regulatory milestone for GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy. The approval is important because regulatory licensing is one of the biggest hurdles facing new nuclear technologies. It provides a regulatory foundation for the BWRX-300 in the United States and could make it easier to pursue additional projects using the same standardized design.
