Microsoft has finally found a way into the consumer smart home, and it isn't through a smartphone or a dedicated smart speaker. Instead, the tech giant is bypassing the traditional entry points that have defined the industry for a decade by partnering with LG Electronics to embed intelligence directly into home appliances. This Speech-to-Speech AI agent, unveiled at the Microsoft Industry Summit in Seoul, marks a strategic pivot for both companies. By integrating a system called Voice Live into the ThinQ ON smart home hub, LG is moving away from licensing Alexa or Google Assistant to become a vertically integrated AI-home vendor.
