Eurozone producer price inflation accelerated in August as energy prices surged, data from Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, showed on Monday. Producer prices rose 8.2% year on year in August, following a 5.8% increase in July. Economists had forecast annual growth of 8.1%. On an annual basis, producer prices excluding energy rose 3.4%, following a 3.1% increase in the previous month. Energy prices recorded the biggest increase in August, rising 21% from a year earlier. Prices of intermediate goods increased 6.8%, while capital goods prices rose 2.6%. Prices of durable consumer goods rose 3.4%, while prices of non-durable consumer goods fell 0.8%. On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 1.9%, in line with expectations and faster than the 1.
