EU unemployment rate was 6.1 per cent in August 2026, also unchanged from July 2026 and higher than 6.0 per cent in August 2025. It estimated 13.600 million people were unemployed in the EU in August 2026, including 11.357 million in the euro area. Compared with July 2026, unemployment rose by 12,000 in the EU and by 26,000 in the euro area; compared with August 2025, it increased by 348,000 in the EU and by 267,000 in the euro area, the Eurostat said in a press release. On youth unemployment, Eurostat estimated that 2.973 million people under 25 were unemployed in the EU in August 2026, of whom 2.391 million were in the euro area.
