The latest reading was the highest since May 2022 and was described as strong by historical standards. All eight euro area countries covered by the S&P Global survey recorded expansionary manufacturing PMI readings in September, the first such broad-based expansion in more than four years. The Netherlands posted the strongest improvement, followed closely by Ireland and Austria. Greece and Germany also recorded solid expansions, while Spain, France and Italy reported more modest growth. Demand strengthened further as new orders for eurozone goods increased at the fastest rate since March 2022, the S&P Global said in a press release.
