The decrease was mainly linked to a lower goods surplus, which moved from €318 billion (~$357 billion) to €288 billion (~$324 billion), and a wider secondary income deficit, which increased from €172 billion (~$193 billion) to €199 billion (~$224 billion). These movements were partly offset by a higher primary income surplus, up from €8 billion (~$9 billion) to €26 billion (~$29 billion).
