In October 2026, Northrop Grumman announced that its FORTITUDE™ gallium nitride chip, roughly the size of a grain of rice, processed vast portions of the electromagnetic spectrum on a single device while delivering three times more power and 20 times better signal quality for applications such as satellites, radar, GPS, electronic warfare and future 6G systems. By replacing dozens of components to cut weight and power use in both commercial and defense systems, this U.S.-built microelectronics platform could broaden Northrop Grumman's role in next generation communications and sensing architectures.
