Canadian poet and writer Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, the award-giving body has announced. Carson was selected “for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature,” the Swedish Academy said in a statement on Thursday. The 76-year-old, whose work is praised for blurring the lines of poetry and fiction, and for giving ancient works new translation, is also a professor of classics. She has written more than 20 books, some of which have been adapted into plays, and has received numerous literary awards.
