The Labor Department reported Thursday that initial jobless claims, on a seasonally adjusted basis, came in at 197,000 for the week ending Oct. 3, a decrease of 2,000 from the prior reading. The prior week's figure was revised up by 2,000, from 197,000 to 199,000.
