The move is also an attempt to address rising fuel costs before the US midterm elections. In a social media post, Trump announced that he had made a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a phone call that was supposed to be about a suspected plague outbreak in Russia. According to Trump, Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by an additional 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons "immediately thereafter.
